In Louisa county the Wapello district court serves as the county district court in the Eighth Judicial district of Iowa. Take your time going through Louisa county on US 61 or SR 78.

Wapello was established as a community around 1836 and incorporated as a city about 20 years later. Wapello lies along the Iowa River where you can see bald eagles and lots of wildlife. The Historical Society of Louisa county maintains two museums. One in Wapello, the Louisa County Heritage center, which displays its large collection of artifacts from early residents and Native American artifacts and includes an original one-room school, a rural church, Grandma's Bedroom and the Louisa Stage. A second museum is located in Columbus Junction and its exhibits display artifacts from the Northwestern area of Louisa County. The county maintains 8 wildlife areas where you are apt to see eagles, upland birds, waterfowl, shorebirds , reptiles and amphibians; 12 public hunting areas in which hunters can find game such as waterfowl, deer, turkey, pheasant, rabbit and squirrel and six campgrounds.
