Albia District Court is also known as the Monroe District Court. It is located in the Eighth judicial district of Iowa. SR 5 and SR 137 converge in Albia while US 34 passes to the South of the city.

Although the first court in Monroe county was held in Clarksville which was then in Kish Ki Kosh county, the court and county seat ended up in Albia around 1859. Albia’s Historic Town Square has over 90 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Touring the square is indeed informative for any visitor where each building has a plaque affixed to it which provides details for the building's architecture. You can continue your historical journey by visiting the Monroe County Historical museum which has oin display a large number of artifacts from 19th century homes, farms and mines as well as a coal mining exhibit, replica one-room school house and train. A new event in town is the Annual Bob Reed Memorial Tractor show held each year in honor of Reed who held annual Threshing Bees along with a petting zoo, draft horse plowing, jumping mules at which tractors came from all around the area to join the Great Albia Tractor Ride out to the Threshing Bee.
