COMMENTS
The county court and district court are located in the same buildings and are in the First judicial districts of Nebraska. There are roads all over the place in Saline county; US 6, SR 15, SR 33, SR 41, SR 74 and SR 76 Spur.
ABOUT THE AREA
Czech pioneers came to Saline County in the 1850's and 1860's and it has the largest Czech population of any county in Nebraska. The origin of the town of Wilber is due to the Burlington and Missouri railroad laying track around 1872 over land where the town is now located. Although the railroad wanted to lay out a town site a mile and a half north of the present town of Wilber; this was not to be. The land owners in that area refused to sell and the town of Wilber was laid out in its present location in the Spring of 1873. The city has an agricultural economy with farmers raising corn, wheat, oats, soybeans, grain sorghum, cattle and hogs and businesses supporting these activities. The city celebrates its Czech heritage every August when it hosts the Czech festival, an event which has not one but three parades. The festival is usually attended by close to 30,000 who feast on traditional Czech foods. Many of the attendees come in Czech costumes and are entertained by the accordion jamboree with up to to 30 people playing accordions at the same time and children performing the Polka, Beseda and Waltz.
