The county court and district court are both located in the Butler County courthouse. They are in the Fifth judicial districts of Nebraska. SR 15, SR 66, SR 12 A and SR 92 will take to the towns and over the beautiful hills and dales of Butler county. US 81 runs along the Western border of the county.

The geography of Butler county was determined by the Territorial Legislature around 1856 although the Waverly Town Company of Plattsmouth attempted to settle in the area almost nine years earlier. A county election in the Spring of 1873 selected David City to be the county seat and just a short time later the town was plotted and laid out. One of the most unusual sights you will come across is a sixteen cornered “round barn” which is just to the Southwest of town and built around 1912. Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art is also National Center for Agrarian Art, that is art which primarily depicts lands, fields, and their tenure. It is the only museum in North America devoted to Agrarian Art. A good place to get a swim on a hot day is the Family Aquatic center. This large pool facility has an unusually large bathhouse. Both the Thorpe Opera house, circa 1889, and the Municipal auditorium are the site of meetings, theatre, musical and community events.
