COMMENTS
If you are looking for the county court or the district court go to the Dawson County Courthouse (County:Room J and District:Room E). Each of them is part of their respective Eleventh judicial district of Nebraska. There are lots of roads that will take you around Dawson county such as IS 80, US 30, US 283, SR 21 and SR 47.
ABOUT THE AREA
Dawson county was established around 1860 and officially organized eleven years later. With the reports of gold being found near Plum Creek around 1873, many fortune seekers came to the area only to find disappointment in the discovery that the metal found was not gold. The county seat was originally called Plum Creek and a settlement quickly grew in the area. The town was renamed Lexington in honor of a famous Civil War battle. The Dawson County Historical museum is filled with old aeroplanes, automobiles, furnishings, carriages, dishes, documents and railroad memorabilia. The Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles has approximately 100 vehicles including helicopters, tanks, halftracks, ambulances and jeeps in addition to exhibits with displays of weapons, uniforms, engines and equipment. There are even German army vehicles used in World War II. For entertainment there is the annual Plum Creek rodeo held in June and the Plum Creek Players Theater Group productions.
