Hamilton Court lies within Montana's Twenty-First judicial district. SR 269 meets US 93 in Hamilton.
ABOUT THE AREA
Settlement in Hamilton seems to have started with a family who came over the Gibbons Pass trail from the Big Hole country and encountering a snow pitched their tent at the South edge of present day Hamilton. After traveling to Stevensville to get supplies they built a dirt roof log cabin and settled in for the Winter. With game being plentiful and plenty of grass for their livestock, they stayed on. Two interesting buildings to visit in Hamilton are the Ravalli County museum and the Daly mansion. The museum occupies the the building which until the late 1970's was the Ravalli County courthouse. Its exhibits on display are a native American collection, the Ricketts museum dealing with the Rocky Mountain Laboratory, an antique kitchen, miner/trapper room, a veteran's display, Ernst Peterson photos, extensive archives, Victorian rooms and a Railway Express Agent Office. The mansion was built in the late 1800's as his family's summer home for one of Montana's "Copper Kings," who started the Anaconda company with his smelter and Hamilton with his lumber industry. This home is large with a size of approximately 24,000 square feet over three floors with 24 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms and seven fireplaces. At the Hamilton Playhouse, originally a two story school house, you can enjoy a production staged by the Hamilton Players. The Bitterroot Community band presents its free Summer concerts at the band shell in Hamilton’s Claudia Driscoll Park on Thursday evenings..
