For many years the area around Cavalier was home the Ojibwa, Dakota, Assiniboine, and Cree. The Pembina State museum has four new galleries which trace North Dakota history from the geologic past of 500 million years ago through today; Adaptation Gallery for Geologic Time, Innovation Gallery for Early Peoples, Inspiration Gallery for Yesterday and Today and the Governors gallery which displays traveling exhibits.
