The economy in this town is driven by the brick factory, farms and ranching. Hebron was founded by German immigrants around 1885. Around 1892 the residents expecting an attack by the Dakota Sioux Indians hurriedly built a fort out of the only material they had handy, sod. They dubbed it Fort Sauerkraut and when the rumors turned out to be false; everyone returned to their normal lives. Recently the fort which had crumbled was recreated by residents. The Hebron Historical museum has on display a large number of collection of local and regional artifacts. If you enjoy eating watermelon, and who doesn't, come to the Watermelon Days festival in July. There's more than watermelon at this event. There's a barbecue, water carnival, kiddy carnival, radio controlled car races, turtle races, canoe races and burgers and brats to eat.
