COMMENTS
Wallace District Court is the Idaho First judicial district court of Shoshone county. In this courthouse building you will also find the Magistrate court of Shoshone county. The only major road cutting across the county is IS 90 and it passes through all the cities in the county.
ABOUT THE AREA
This county is populated by a large number of mountain peaks. Wallace is located in Silver valley and for a long time has been known as the "Silver Capital of the World" based on the large amounts of silver which have been mined in Shoshone county since 1884. The city has a significant place in the history of the United State with every downtown building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although the mining of silver is still a significant part of the economy outdoor recreation opportunities draw a large number of people from around the world. Many of them come to enjoy the skiing at nearby Silver Mountain and Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation areas. There are also venues here for fishing, mountain and road biking, mountain climbing, hiking and backpacking, river rafting and kayaking, golf and motorized exploration on two or four wheels ATV's. The Northern Pacific Depot Railroad museum, which was moved to make way for IS90, has exhibits representative of the history opf railroading and mining in the area. In May the city holds its annual Northern Pacific Depot Railroad Museum festival and Classic Car show to celebrate the erection of the Northern Pacific Depot in 1902. During this event restored classic cars are parked on the streets in historic Wallace. There's music at the Gazebo, activities for kids on the Depot lawn, various ethnic and traditional food booths and a model train exhibit.
