COMMENTS
Rupert District Court is the district court of Minidoka county. The magistrate court of Minidoka county (Phone No. 208-436-7186, Fax No. 436-5857) is located in the same building as this court. Both courts are in the Fifth judicial district of Idaho. Roads SR 24, SR 25 and IS 84 serve this county.
ABOUT THE AREA
Minidoka county was formed in the Winter of 1913 and named for the first settlement which was a railroad siding. The name is an Indian word but no one seems to know the exact meaning of it. All its towns and cities are located in the lower half of the county. The Minidoka County Fair Grounds, in Rupert, are the site of many events such as chariot races, high school rodeos, Hispanic rodeos, carnival and horse races on July 4th, rabbit shows, the Idaho State Horse Show association show, snaffle bit shows and posse meets. The annual Minidoka County fair, held at these fairgrounds at the end of July feature a rodeo, horse shows, free entertainment, food booths, Lions Barbecue, lawn mower races, 4-H/Future Farmers of America (FFA) projects and Open Class exhibits, a 4-H/FFA livestock auction, Old Time Family rodeo and a Junior rodeo. When the Wilson Theatre opened in the early 1920's, its silent movies, and later, talkies, were a big hit. However, television brought its downfall and the building fell into disrepair. This beautiful triangle shaped building is now being restored to serve as a cultural arts center
