With the battles with Indians and pioneers still in their minds; it was recommended that they built a fort. This was followed by the erection of a meeting house and school house. To add to the fear of the Indians and also had to face famine and hunger was the fire which destroyed the meeting house which was also used as a storehouse. The settlers then grew strawberries which led to the celebration of Strawberry Days even after the crop was no longer grown here.
