Surrounded by the Township of Edison (formerly known as Raritan), <strong>Metuchen Borough</strong> has about 13,000 people. The nearest hospital is a couple of miles away from the heart of the borough, but Metuchen Veterinary Hospital is said to be one of the very best in the state. So if you really need help, you might want to stop there. Okay, maybe not. Routes 27, 501, 531 (also called Main Street) and 669 pass through the borough. Metuchen won the \\\"Brainy Borough\\\" competition somewhere in the early 1900s, thanks to the numerous prominent artists, writers and mathematicians who were residents of the borough at the time.
