ABOUT THE AREA
Well, Homer in the county is named after a Greek. Virgil here is named after a Roman. Maybe that's progress. So how come Greek Peak ski resort is here instead of Homer? They do have plenty of farming here.<br>Located in the southern part of Cortland County, Virgil was settled in 1792, and named for the Roman poet. Still largely rural & agricultural, Virgil maintains many areas for conservation, as well as private forests. Hiking & biking trails are open on state land. And Skyline Raceway welcomes stock car racers.
