Stanhope is a quaint homey borough with a population of about 3750, at the southernmost tip of Sussex County. Routes 183, 602 and Interstate-206 pass through the borough. I-80 is nearby too. Stanhope is bordered by Lake Musconetcong. Musconetcong River flows through the lake.
