COMMENTS
You can still visit the old (inoperational) courthouse, built 1836, but the new one is nice too. This is a fairly quiet county, with the exception of Amsterdam, which has a high level of illegal drug use despite the relatively small population.
ABOUT THE AREA
Montgomery county is situated along the Mohawk River, and encompasses the towns of St. Johnsville, Minden, Palatine, Canajoharie, Root, Mohawk, Glen, Charlestown, Florida, and the city of Amsterdam. It\'s declining economy was hurt by bad flooding in the summer of 2006. Mohawk River runs through the county east-west. Some beautiful historic sites, including Guy Park, Fort Johnson, and Fort Klock.
JUDGES
Justice Felix Catena. One of the nicest guys you could meet. His friends might call him Flex, but you should not. His staff are also wonderful.
PROSECUTORS
The Honorable James E. Conboy is Montgomery County's DA. He handles many of the felony cases himself.
TYPE OF CASES
Felonies: Drugs (mostly from Amsterdam), Larceny, and DWI are the most common.
