ABOUT THE AREA
Overlook Mountain Fire Tower trail views the ruins of the Overlook Hotel, one of the famous Mountain Houses of the late 1800's, early 1900's. Locale of the Down Rent War of 1845-47; In 1969, the site of a really big concert, on a farm outside town (yeah, THAT Woodstock - the ONLY Woodstock!) Still a vibrant scene for artists, writers & musicians of all kinds. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places are the Byrdcliffe Historic District & the Church of the Holy Transfiguration of Christ on the Mount. Fire towers are a cool thing by the way - something to learn more about.
