Rte 38 runs north/south through town, paralleling Owego Creek. The Berkshire Town Court, located in the Town Offices, can be reached by turning off Rte 202 onto Railroad Ave, or turn off Rte 38 onto either Depot St or Mill St onto Railroad Ave.
ABOUT THE AREA
Originally known as Brown's Settlement (1791) was renamed Berkshire in 1808. Birthplace of Edward R. Eastman (1885), Berkshire has many buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A primarily rural area, Berkshire boasts several "cottage industries" as well as dairy farms and other agricultural pursuits. The 1349 acres of Jenksville State Forest includes a 12 mile trail for horses, hiking & cross country skiing. Owego Creek cuts through town on its way to the Susquehanna, with trout accessible from the state parking areas & trails. The Berkshire Rod & Gun Club encourages safe hunting practices with hunting safety courses and shooting events.
