In the center of the village, St Rtes 96 & 34 join, becoming North Main Street, at Tioga Street, near the Bank Headquarters. The Municipal Building (Village Court) is on the corner of Owego Street.

Benjamin Drake first settled along the Catatonk Creek, which was the beginning of the village. The first frame building (at what is now 45 North Main) was Purdy's Tavern, just a few doors down from the Municipal Building. Downtown is known at "The Corners", while across the creek lies ... Brooklyn. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places is the Halsey Valley Grand Army of the Republic Meeting Hall, circa 1875. The Village of Spencer just might be inside the Town of Spencer, which is home to the nearby <a href="http://www.town-court.com/getTownCourt.php?courtID=2222">Spencer Town Court</a>. But they are two different courts in two different locations. Make sure you get the right one!<br><br> They've been running one heck of a picnic here in Spencer for about a hundred years.
