New Englanders were drawn to this area by the fertile fields, fed by Trout Brook & Chenango Creek. Much of the forest, wetlands and parks are state or county owned, offering opportunities for outdoor adventures. The Hathewood Homestead from the 1800's is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. An outdoor environmental center is owned and operated by the Cortland County Cooperative Extension.
