The town grew around the Masonic Lodge in the 1860's and 1870's. Apopka is a lovely small town with a diverse population of age and races. With it's plant growers concentrating on a trade in tropical plants; Apopka has become known as the Indoor Foliage Capital of the world. Nearby Wekiva Springs State park offers locations for weekend camping trips and paths for a leisurely hike. Canoeists and kayakers can paddle on the Wekiva river. Apopka lake is to the southeast.<br>Lots of lakes near Apopka and all around this area just north of Orlando.
