The Red Hook Community Justice Center, part of the New York City Criminal Court system, is located at 88-94 Visitation Place, Brooklyn, in a former Catholic school. A Youth Court is also housed in this center. See http://www.courtinnovation.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Page.ViewPage&PageID=572¤tTopTier2=true for more information.
ABOUT THE AREA
The Brooklyn district of Red Hook was a village prior to its annexation to the borough. The Dutch settlers named it Roode Hoek (Hoek means point or corner) for the red clay soil and the point of land that juts into the East River; being a peninsula. Interestingly, Red Hook is the only part of NYC that has a full frontal view of the Statue of Liberty from land.
The primary judge at Red Hook is Hon. Alex Calabrese
Brooklyn DA (Kings County)
TYPE OF CASES
Civil, Criminal, and Family cases are also heard at this innovative court.
