ABOUT THE AREA
In the late 1800's the communities of Port Royal and Furnace Hill were incorporated into the borough of Royalton. The years have seen several major changes to the economic life blood of this town from being a center for trade conducted via the local creeks and rives, to iron and steel production, and then to brick production which ended in the 1960's. Today, the construction and health care industries provide the main employment to many of the 900 residents.
