Farming areas were the typical images found in this land back in the early 20th century when the Boswell family arrived to this territory and opened the Merchants Coal Company while witnessing the town incorporation, where German and Polish ancestries participated actively in the construction of the community traditions and infrastructure. Elevated over 1820 feet above sea level and a population of almost 1400 inhabitants, this municipality shares frontiers with Jennerstown, Jerome, Stoystown, Benson, and Hooversville in a radius of 8 miles.
