More than 3000 inhabitants have made this farming and lumbering community their home, generating a population density of 895 people per square mile. This territory incorporated back in the late 19th century has strong influences of Italian, German, and Irish ancestries; just as the nearby communities of Ridway, St. Marys, and Kane. Poverty and infrastructure seem to be the biggest challenges of the local authorities which are in the urgent position of generating more work sources, better local structures to attract investors, and overcome the negative numbers keeping 1/3 of the population struggling with extreme poverty.
