Portions of Venango and Armstrong Counties gave birth to Clarion County back in the 1830s, named after the Clarion River, and proud home of the Clarion University of Pennsylvania. This territory, 609 square miles in extension, has approximately 42000 inhabitants and shares frontiers with Forest, Jefferson, Armstrong, Butler, and Venango Counties. Thirteen boroughs and twenty two townships form the map of Clarion County, reporting a median household income of approximately $11000 under the national average income, in a land with approximately 1/4 of the residents under the age of 18 and a population density of 69 people per square miles.
