Named after Gov. Simon Snyder, this county formed in 1850s shares frontiers with Union, Northumberland, Juniata, and Mifflin Counties. With a median household income of approximately $36000, this territory of 330 square miles of extension is served by Middleburgs as its county seat. On this mostly Republican land, more than 38100 people have found their home, even when recently, this community faced a major loss of employment due several problems with the operation of the local industries. Today, the most important employers are Apex Homes Inc Manufacturing, Professional Building Systems Manufacturing, Wal-Mart Associates Inc Retail Trade, and Susquehanna University Educational Services.
