The DeKalb County Courthouse which is more than 100 years old is located in the the county seat and it has placed this community on the very exclusive list of territories. Home of 89000 people, this territory of almost 635 square miles of extension was founded back in the second half of the 1830s and shares border lines with LaSalle, Ogle, Winnebago, Lee, Kendall, Boone, Kane, and McHenry Counties. Sycamore is the governmental center of DeKalb County and also the home of the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival celebrated since the early 1960s. The county seat of DeKalb County concentrates most of its population in the surrounding areas of the Kishwaukee River, and it was a silent witness of the commercial, industrial, and social progress of its village back in the 19th century; right before the American Civil War.
