Home of more than 61250 people, connected with the neighboring communities of this county of almost 445 square miles of extension, by the Interstate 57, Interstate 24, and Illinois Route 13. Franklin, Pope, Jackson, Saline, Union, and Johnson Counties constitute the frames of the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge's land divided in fourteen cities and twelve townships formed back in the late 1830s.
