Some of the most common nicknames given to this territory of 60 square miles of extension are "The Old Capitol", "FAYcity", "All-American City", and "Fayette City". Fayetteville created back in the 1760s, is home of Fort Bragg and it is located in the county known as "Sandhills" area, which faces a very successful commercial growth since its beginnings back in the 19th century. With approximately 172000 inhabitants, it is becoming one of the most populated cities in North Carolina including three suburban areas; Hope Mills, Raeford, and Spring Lake.
