ABOUT THE AREA
Part of the Hickory–Lenoir–Morganton metro area and home of more than 141600 people are some the elements to describe this community in North Carolina served by Newton city as its county seat. Established back in the 1840s, this territory of more than 410 square miles of extension was named after the Catawba tribe when this land was considered one of the most active and successful gold (mines?) produced Nation wide. Divided into eleven townships and twelve cities including Newton, St. Stephens, Maiden, Mountain View, Maiden, Brookford, Hickory, and Claremont. Newton is home of more than 12500 people and has a total extension of 13 square miles of territory with a population density of 968 people per square mile.
