ABOUT THE AREA
Established back in the 1840s, this territory of more than 260 square miles of extension is part of the regional Western Piedmont Council of Governments. Protected from the wind and the cruel weather by the Brushy Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains sharing border lines with Wilkes, Iredell, Catawba, and Caldwell Counties. This lovely community is irrigated by the Catawba river and has rich mines yielding emeralds, sapphires, and spodumenes mostly in the unincorporated town of Hiddenite. Taylorsville City was founded back in the 1850s with American, English, German, Irish, and Dutch ancestries under a territory of 2 square miles of extension located nearby the communities of Stony Point, Conover, Wilkesboro, and Love Valley.
