ABOUT THE AREA
Dare County founded in the 1870, has approximately 33500 residents and it was named after Virginia Dare, the first child born of English parents in America. Almost 15% of the inhabitants report German ancestry while more than 10% of the population report Irish ancestry, which makes this land a very diverse combination of traditions, influences, beliefs, and faiths. This community, with close to 1565 square miles of extension and a population density of more than 78 people per square mile, attracts all of the lovers and admirers of the two popular lighthouses: The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
