ABOUT THE AREA
Founded in the 1720s with a total extension of 1340 square miles of extension, this community shares frontiers with Craven, Jones, and Onslow Counties. The racial makeup in this land named for Sir John Carteret and part of the Crystal Coast includes White Non Hispanic, African America, Hispanic, American Indian, and other races residing on this land refreshed by several lakes and rivers such as Beach Marsh, Mullet Pond, North River, Godfry Branch, and Glover Creek. Some of the parks in this territory served by the Carteret County Public School System, include Fort Macon State Park, Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge, and Highland Park.
