ABOUT THE AREA
In the 1860's, Deposit was the center of a large lumber business & an important trading station for the NY & Erie RR. The Village had a seminary, 7 printing offices, a sawmill, large tannery and 4 churches. The State Theater Building on Front St, circa 1925, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is still in use. Located at the mouth of the Oquaga Creek, the Village of Deposit, incorporated in 1811, is part of the town of Sanford.
