ABOUT THE AREA
Almost 540 square miles of territory constitute the total area of Anson County which experienced several reductions during the 18th century and witnessed the filming process of the movie The Color Purple back in the middle 1980s. Stanly County represents the northern limit of this land, while the eastern and southern "walls" are given by Richmond, Marlboro (SC), and Chesterfield (SC) Counties; and finally the western border is provided by the territories of Union County.
