ABOUT THE AREA
The former President Andrew Jackson was honored by the people of Jackson, who decided to name their land after him back in the 19th century. Almost 35000 have made this territory located in the western wings of North Carolina State their home, where German and Irish ancestries are present in the history and traditions in the community formed from portions of Transylvania and Henderson Counties. The homeland of the Southwestern Community College and Western Carolina University gave birth in the 1870s to the lovely territory of Swain County. The media power in this land is represented by Cashiers Crossroads Chronicle, Smoky Mountain News, Sylva Herald & Ruralite newspapers.
