ABOUT THE AREA
Incorporated in the 1720s with approximately 740 square miles of territory, Bertie County is the proud son of Albemarle County located in the course of the Chowan River. This member of the Mid-East Commission regional council of governments nested in between Herfort, Chowan, Washington, Martin, Halifax, and Northampton Counties; is home of more than 19750 people, almost 7750 households, and approximately 5400 families residing in its nine townships, one designated place, thrirteen unincorporated communties, and eight cities including Merry Hill, Roxobel, Shake Bite, Whites, Spring Branck, Woodard, Pine Ridges, Indian Woods, and Colerain.
