ABOUT THE AREA
Ten townships and nine cities constitute the map of Martin County located in the southern limit of Bertie County and the northern border of Pitt County. With a population density of over 55 people per square mile, more than 1/2 of the population residing in this territory is White Non Hispanic while approximately 45% is African American. Willimaston town is home of more than 5840 inhabitants with a bit less than 4 square miles of extension, serving as the county seat of Martin presenting 30% of its population living under extreme poverty; mostly residents under 18 years old.
