ABOUT THE AREA
The barrier islands located in Apalachicola Bay abound in scenic beauty with white sand beaches, a state park and a national wildlife refuge. Enjoy; no crowds and the pace is unhurried. Apalachicola was established as a port for the cotton trade. Ships left here carrying cotton bound for Europe and New England. If you want to take an interesting trip back in time go on a walking tour past old cotton warehouses and along the waterfront. But don't worry about boll weevils; cotton doesn't move through here anymore.
