ABOUT THE AREA
Named for John Brooks, who worked to establish the county; this territory is one of the jewels of Texas County integrated for more than 250 counties. Falfurrias and Cantu Addition are two of the "spoiled" children of this community home of several notable locations such as Cachucha Windmill, Jassos Gate Windmill, Indian Ranch, Camp Vista Windmill, Miller Ranch, Alta Mesa Camp, and La Colonia Park. With a population density of 8 people per square mile, Brooks' economy is mostly supported by the employment generated by the agriculture, forestry, construction, educational services, accommodation, and health care industries.
