ABOUT THE AREA
Erie County is home to Buffalo, the second largest city in New York State. It's on the eastern shores of Lake Erie and the head of the Niagara River. The name is believed to have come from the French "beau fleuve" which means "beautiful river". (No bison here). Cold and snowy in winter, the city has the sunniest and driest summers in the northeast.
