Three sites in Marianna mark the Battle of Marianna in the Civil war. The Interpretive Marker in Courthouse Square, the State Memorial in Confederate Park and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Those Union forces sure did get far into the South. Evidence of the destruction of the battle can be in the old Holden House which was in the midst of the battle. Some Union soldiers in a show of a sense of humor pulled off a prank. They left a 12-pound cannonball in the middle of the parlor floor of the Holden house. They warned the occupants that if the solid iron cannonball were moved, it might explode.
