Childress city is the county seat of this corner of Texas State established in the late 1880s with more than 7680 residents and named after George Campbell Childress. Communicated by the U.S. Highway 62, U.S. Highway 83, U.S. Highway 287, and State Highway 256; this county shares border lines with Collingsworth, Hardeman, Cottle, Hall, and Harmon (OK) Counties.
