Named for the Colorado River of Texas, this territory located adjacent to Austin, Jackson, Lavaca, Wharton, and Fayette Counties has a population density of more than 20 people per square mile. Home of the Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge, this land has a racial makeup of White Non Hispanic, African American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latino, and other racial groups. We strongly recommend you to stop by the Colorado County Courthouse built in the late 19th century and added to the National Register of Historic Places in the 1980s.
