ABOUT THE AREA
Milford is the "Granite Town" in the Granite State. The granite quarries provided the stone used for the pillars of the US Treasury Building in Washington DC and seen on the $10 bill. Today only one small quarry remains. Now a retail and manufacturing center on the Souhegan River, it was a prime stop on the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves. NH Routes 13 and 101A cross the town which features antique shops and country craft stores.
