ABOUT THE AREA
New Hampshire Routes 28 and 102 intersect here. Interstate 93 led to an increase in population here. The town is named for Derry in Northern Ireland and from the Irish work "doire" which means oakwoods. It is reported that the first potato planted in the US was planted here in 1719. Noted residents are Alan Shepard astronaut and poet Robert Frost. The Frost Homestead here is on the National Historic Landmarks register.
