ABOUT THE AREA
The town of Poughkeepsie is comprised of several districts and hamlets, including Spackenkill, Wappinger Falls, Rochdale, Red Oak Mills, New Hamburg, Fairview, Clark Heights, Colonial Heights, Barnegat, Arlington, and MacDonnell Heights. Poughkeepsie is the seat for Dutchess County, and its name is a corrupted translation of a Native American word \"Uppuqui-ipis-ing\" meaning \"reed-covered hut by the water\". The prestigious womens educational institution, Vassar College is located here, as well as Marist College. IBM has a main campus in town. There is also an Amtrak Station and the Metro North line ends here too.
