In 2005, a Syracuse University student was arraigned in Otisco Town Court on one felony count of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana when a search of his residence turned up nearly 250 pounds of processed marijuana packed in small plastic bags.

Otisco is a very small town with a population that has slowly dwindled since its peak in the 1800's. Today, the town, situated on Route 80 just northwest of Tully, has only about 2,500 residents. The town is only about 5 miles long and 4 miles wide. Otisco Lake, on the west border of the town, in a valley 1,000 feet below the summits of the hills, is a beautiful body of water surrounded by picturesque scenery. Otisco has an Indian name, apparently referring to waters dried up or gone away. Today, the shores of Otisco lake have become a popular resort for cottagers, campers, and fishers.
