ABOUT THE AREA

Amity is one of the larger towns in Allegany county, but this doesn't say much, as pretty much the whole county is rural farmland. It contains the hamlets of Belvidere and Withey, as well as the village of Belmont, the county seat.The town's name, Amity, means "friendship"; there is also an adjacent town named Friendship. The Southern Tier Expressway is a combination of I-86 and Rt.17 that runs through the northwestern corner of town.
