ABOUT THE AREA
This community which is part of the Beaumont-Port Arthur metro area was named for the local lake whose water was believed to have healing powers. According to a census done in 2003, almost 1700 people call Sour Lake home. The median household income in this corner of Hardin County is $30,300 which, unfortunately, is almost $12,000 less than the national average. But on the positive side, only one violent crime was reported in 2003.
